NLTA Biennial General Meeting Being Held in St. John’s, April 23-26, 2019

St. John’s, NL … The 2019 Biennial General Meeting of the Newfoundland and Labrador Teachers’ Association will take place from April 23-26 at the Sheraton Hotel Newfoundland in St. John’s.

Approximately 150 members will attend the meeting to consider resolutions put forward by the Branches and Special Interest Councils, resolutions from delegates at Convention, By-law changes and other important business.

The President of the NLTA, Dean Ingram, will be addressing the delegates at the first general session on Wednesday, April 24 at 8:30 a.m.

Highlights include the conferring of an honorary NLTA membership; presentation  of the Bancroft Award which recognizes outstanding service at the branch level of NLTA; presentation of the Special Recognition Award (Johnson Inc.) which recognizes contributions to the cultural, social and/or community life of Newfoundland and Labrador; presentation of the Barnes Award which recognizes achievement in the area of professional development at the Special Interest Council level; and presentation of the Patricia Cowan Award for Support and Promotion of Education which recognizes outstanding contributions and/or support for education by groups or individuals outside the K-12 school system.

  • Members of the media are invited to attend all meetings with the exception of closed sessions. (Click here for agenda)
  • Copies of resolutions, as well as information on candidates running for election will be available at the Sheraton Hotel Newfoundland on the afternoon of April 23. If you would like copies before then, please contact Lesley-Ann Browne at the NLTA (number below).
  • Election for members of the 2019-21 Provincial Executive will take place on Thursday, April 25.
