Position Statement:

Dear Colleagues,

I am both humbled and honored to be a candidate for NLTA President 2025-2027. Throughout my career, I have been actively involved in many areas of the NLTA. I take great pride in our association and the work it does on behalf of teachers. I feel it is time for me to put my experience, knowledge and passion to work for all of us. If elected, I will work with you, beside you and for you to create a better tomorrow.

There are 5 areas that I believe need to be our priorities over the next few years. These include collective bargaining, teacher health and wellness, workload, school violence and the recruitment and retention of teachers. Collective bargaining is and always must be a priority. We must maintain what we have fought long and hard to achieve, but we must also strive to grow and improve our collective agreement. Teacher health and wellness is also of paramount importance. If we are not healthy and well, we are of little use to the students in our care. Year after year, our workload continues to increase to the point that it is almost impossible to complete everything. We need help. Incidents of school violence are on the rise and seem to be intensifying year after year. Finally, we all know that there are not enough teachers in our schools. We still have many positions left unfilled and we are relying on retired and emergency supply teachers to fill our classrooms on a daily basis.

Things must change. Our education system is in crisis. I firmly believe that with your help and guidance, I can bring about positive changes for all of us. Yes, I have a lot of NLTA experience and knowledge, but more importantly, I am  a classroom teacher. I have been in the classroom for the past 26 years and I know the issues. I am faced with them every single day, just like you. The system is failing both us and our students. We are reaching a breaking point. For far too long, we have been in survival mode. If elected, I promise to do what I can to get rid of the word survive and help us all thrive.
