International Women's Day
The 2016 theme for International Women’s Day is “Planet 50-50 by 2030: Step It Up for Gender Equality”. The United Nations observance on 8 March will reflect on how to accelerate the 2030 Agenda, building momentum for the effective implementation of the new Sustainable Development Goals. It will equally focus on new commitments under UN Women’s Step It Up initiative, and other existing commitments on gender equality, women’s empowerment and women’s human rights. - See more at:http://www.unwomen.org/en/news/in-focus/international-womens-day#sthash.tRCA3DQk.dpuf -

Deadline for Submitting Resignations for Retirement
Deadline for submitting resignations for teachers who are retiring is March 31st. The NLESD has indicated that they will be processing all resignations received up to April 8th, after which time, Board officials will be directing their attention to staffing. Any resignations received after April 8th may not be processed until later and thus may delay when a teacher might expect to receive their pension benefits. For teachers who are retiring at the end of the school year and whose resignations are received by the Board by April 8th, the processing of the resignation will occur in time for the teacher to receive their entire summer holdback in a lump-sum payout during the first pay period in July, followed by their first pension check being directly deposited on July 15th. Teachers who do not meet the April 8th deadline may have their pension check delayed in July.
