Pre-Retirement Seminars 2021
Please Note: All pre-retirement seminars for the 2021-22 school year are full. Registration is now closed. Please check back next year for available dates.
Members who are eligible to retire within two years of the expiry of the current school year (by June 2024) can register for one of the NLTA’s Pre-Retirement Seminars scheduled to be held this fall in Corner Brook, Grand Falls-Windsor and St. John’s. One additional seminar will be offered virtually from January 13-14, 2022. These seminars are held in accordance with Association policy as part of its overall program of pre-retirement counselling. Clause 18.12 of the Provincial Collective Agreement and Clause 29.12 of the Labrador West Collective Agreement provide two days paid leave to attend these seminars.
Health guidelines during the COVID-19 pandemic will continue to be monitored. Numbers approved for each session are limited and may be further adjusted if physical distancing guidelines should change in the Fall. Should Public Health guidelines prevent the in-person seminars from going ahead onsite, seminars will be offered virtually. NLTA members who need to book airfare to attend an in-person seminar should contact Melanie McDonald (mmcdonald@nlta.nl.ca) directly. Due to physical distancing guidelines currently in place, we reserve the right to limit the number of people who will be granted access, depending on the physical facilities available at each site. Consequently, it is imperative that NLTA members plan ahead and register early in the event that registrations have to be taken at a first-come, first-served basis.
Information sessions deal with topics such as the Teachers’ Pension Plan, Severance Pay, Employment Insurance, NLTA Group Insurance, Financial and Estate Planning and the Canada Pension Plan. As well, time is available for individual counselling of prospective retirees by the various consultants.
Read the full text of the NLTA Policy on Pre-Retirement Seminars located in the Policy Handbook of the NLTA (under Section IV, Subsection G). The NLTA policy will also be emailed to members with confirmation of registration.
