Electronic Voting Process

Online voting for the election of NLTA President will take place from November 23-27. Voting for NLTA Vice-President will take place from December 14-18. All voting must be completed between 8:30 a.m. on the Monday of voting week until 3:30 p.m. on the Friday of voting week.

In order to cast your vote you will require both your employee id (found on your paystub or in the NLESD My HR Portal at www.nlesd.ca/MemberServices) and your date of birth. This information is used as part of the voter validation requirement of the electronic voting system. The system will only allow NLTA members in good standing to vote. To ensure a secret ballot, once a vote is cast there will be no identifiable link between the voter information and the voting intention.

Substitute teachers who have taught on at least one occasion during this school year and teachers on leave are eligible to vote.

Members will be able to vote using a smart phone, tablet or computer. The ability to access the internet using one of the following web browsers (Safari, Chrome, Firefox, or Microsoft Edge) will be necessary. A link to access the electronic voting system will be provided to members prior to each vote. The Association has created an alternate telephone voting system, should internet connectivity become an issue. The phone number will also be provided to members prior to each vote.

In the event of connectivity or phone line issues, a faxed ballot is permissible if it is impossible for a member to cast an electronic vote during the election dates (provided that the completed faxed ballot is accompanied by a signed statement from the member in question, stating that the ballot was indeed cast personally by him/her). Such a vote would have to be administered by the Electoral Committee and the completed ballot received only at the NLTA Head Office.

Results will be released to the membership after the Electoral Committee has officially declared the name of the incumbent for each office.

Your vote is extremely important, as it will determine who will lead the Association for the 2021-22 and 2022-23 school years. The remaining ten positions on the Provincial Executive will be elected by voting delegates at the Biennial General Meeting to be held on April 6-9, 2021.

Electoral Committee
