Teacher Allocation Review
The NLTA has been an active participant in the review process of the Teacher Allocation Model. The Association will continue to advocate for a needs-based, as opposed to budget-based, approach to the allocation of human resources to the K-12 public education system in this province. The focus should be on ensuring an appropriate allocation of teachers and other supports to meet the needs of all students. The NLTA is hopeful about the work that is underway with the review of the Teacher Allocation Model and that the recommendations from the committee will ultimately make a difference in our classrooms. The research clearly shows that a strong public education system, with reasonable class sizes with allowances for complexity in class composition, enhances economic productivity, improves health outcomes, and can reduce demands on other public supports, including the justice system and community social services.
