NLTA Update re COVID-19
March 15, 2020

NLTA staff have been in contact with senior officials of the Department of Education and Early Childhood Development and the Newfoundland and Labrador English School District throughout the March 14-15 weekend.

As the current situation is a public health issue, the Association has received assurances that should the Chief Medical Officer for Health, Dr. Janice Fitzgerald, deem it necessary to close schools as a precautionary measure that the Department of Education and Early Childhood Development will comply.

The NLTA has advised the Department of Education and Early Childhood Development and the Newfoundland and Labrador English School District of our concerns regarding student hygiene practices, availability of adequate hand washing stations, and the need for enhanced school cleaning protocols.

We will update you when further information becomes available.
