NLTA SADDENED BY DEATH OF PAST PRESIDENT

St. John’s, NL… The Newfoundland and Labrador Teachers’ Association wishes to express its sympathy to the family, friends and colleagues of Fred Andrews who passed away on Saturday, November 25. Mr. Andrews was President of the NLTA from 1999-2001.

“We are deeply saddened by the death of Mr. Andrews,” says Dean Ingram, President of the NLTA. “He played a significant role in the history of the Association and was greatly admired for his dedication and commitment on behalf of teachers”.

Mr. Andrews was actively involved in the NLTA throughout his teaching career and was elected to the Provincial Executive Council in 1991. During his years on Executive he chaired various committees at the local level and served as Chairperson of the Provincial Negotiating Team.

At the 1999 Biennial General Meeting he was elected to the Presidency of the NLTA for a two-year term and as President, represented the Association on numerous boards and with various liaison groups. Nationally he served on the Board of Directors of the Canadian Teachers’ Federation and in 2000-01 as a CTF Vice-President.

Fred retired from his teaching career following the completion of his term of office as President on July 31, 2001.
