Centennial Project Awards

Applications to be considered by the Professional Issues Committee 

Purpose
The Association funds ongoing educational projects submitted by qualifying teachers, as long as they meet the purposes of the Centennial Fund. Projects submitted for funding should have a demonstrable benefit to teachers, students, and/or the learning environment. Thesis writing or other work for which university credit is being earned will not qualify.

Structure
Project proposals should contain the folllowing:

  • an executive summary of no more than two pages outlining the educational significance of the project;
  • the educational and inservice materials to be produced;
  • the potential of the project as a continuing program;
  • rationale;
  • goals and objectives;
  • description of the project;
  • timelines;
  • budget;
  • evaluation and reporting procedures; and
  • a list of other partners, if any, and a brief description of their involvement.

Projects must be innovative in nature and not part of an existing program.

Selection
Recipients are chosen by the Professional Issues Committee.

Deadline
Proposals/applications will be accepted on an ongoing basis and will be considered by the Professional Issues Committee at its next regularly scheduled meeting, with disbursements dependent upon the availability of funds at that time.

Funding
Funding is available only for costs for teacher-initiated projects for which school or school board funds are not normally available. Funding is not available for the purchase of hardware or for activities whose major purpose is the production of commercial materials. Funding will also not include honoraria for project sponsors.

Reporting
A final report to the Professional Development Division of the NLTA must be in such form so that the information gathered will be of benefit to others wishing to undertake similar projects.The final report, including an executive summary suitable for posting on the NLTA web site, will be submitted to the NLTA office, and its availability will be announced in The Bulletin.

Recipients of this award must supply progress reports, as stipulated by the Professional Issues Committee,  on the status of the project. Funding will be awarded as successive stages of the projects are completed.

Failure to meet any or all of the criteria for the project will result in rejection of future applications.

The description of your proposal will vary according to the nature of your project. Your application should include information on the following:

  1. executive summary (no more than two pages);
  2. project rationale;
  3. goals and objectives;
  4. project description;
  5. duration of project;
  6. budget;
  7. evaluation and reporting procedures; and
  8. a list of other partners, if any, and a brief description of their involvement, including financial contributions.

Supporting Documentation:

  1. The summary/description of the project should be sufficiently clear and specific to stand on its own merit without additional material. Related booklets, brochures, forms and sketches or diagrams may be included (mailed) with the application if the applicant feels that they are essential components for a full appreciation of the application.
  2. Testimonials are not required, but should the applicant feel they are important as supportive documentation, they shall be limited to one only.
  3. Please be sure to provide a fully detailed description of the application being submitted as well as the requested summary. Additional pages may be used as required for the detailed description.
